Jakub Sylvestr, Chennaiyin FC’s latest foreign recruit, has been in awe of the quality of football on offer in the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL). Speaking to club’s official website, the Slovakian striker noted the league’s improvement over the past six seasons and shared his eagerness to don the colours of the two-time champions.

“In the last few years, the league (Hero ISL) has been improving rapidly. The quality of players coming in, and the quality of football being played is very good. I am sure it will be a competitive season. I will try to do my best, and try to bring my experience from the many countries and clubs I have played in. All of us players need to strike a good chemistry and play for each other. We will achieve success if we are united,” said Sylvestr.

The 31-year-old will be taking over the attacking reins of the Marina Machans from last season’s Maruti Suzuki Golden Boot winner Nerijus Valskis, who will now ply his trade with Jamshedpur FC in the Hero ISL 2020-21 season.

“I would say my style is simple. I am a hardworking player who likes to be very active and involved in things. I love to score goals. And that is my job too! I consider myself a fast and agile striker, something that I hope gives me an advantage over the opposing defenders,” he shared.

Sylvestr also revealed the influence of head coach Csaba Laszlo on his decision to move to India and was appreciative of the faith shown in him by the 56-year-old head coach.

“Talking to him at length has helped me take the decision to come to Chennaiyin FC and India. It has given me full belief in his plans, and that he knows me and believes in my abilities. He likes my style of play and he is confident that I will help the team achieve the goals, which is to win,” he said.

With the upcoming season said to take place behind closed doors in Goa, Sylvestr is hopeful of celebrating success with Chennaiyin FC faithful in the seasons to come.

“I am really looking forward to this new adventure. And I don’t think it’ll be possible this season, but hopefully next season we will be able to celebrate many goals and wins together. So I am really looking forward to it,” he concluded.
