The 2015-16 season of Calcutta Premier League kicked off on the 4th of August with 11 teams from the bastion city of football vying for the title.Yesterday was a Super Sunday for Mohun Bagan who thrashed Southern Samity 5-2, capping Week 2 on a positive note. Former FC Pune City forward Dudu Omagbemi’s hat-trick on his debut, at the Barasat Stadium, ensured victory for the Hero I-league 2014-15.The League began with Southern Samity drawing against Police A.C. with the scores reading 2-2 at the final whistle. Meanwhile, at the Gayeshpur Stadium, BNR conceded a defeat to Aryan Club, with the final score at 2-1. Matches in the past two weeks have been a mixed bag of performances, ranging from exemplary to a lot of missed chances on both sides.Apart from the match yesterday, these two weeks witnessed two other goal-fests. Army XI trounced Police A.C. 5-1 at the Gayeshpur Stadium while East Bengal recorded a 6-0 win over BNR, with Korean import Do Dong-hyun earning his first hat-trick.The teams also had a few ISL players, some of whom put in a noteworthy performance. Mumbai City FC’s Debjit Majumder was exceptional for Mohun Bagan making quite a few crucial saves, while FC Pune City’s Pritam Kotal too held his own with the Green and Maroon Brigade. A lot of goals were set up between Bikash Jairu (FC Pune City) and Harmanjot Khabra (Chennaiyin FC) which helped East Bengal move up the table. Ex-North East United FC player Do Dong-hyun too made his mark in his first season for the Red and Golds with his triple, in a match which also saw the exploits of Atletico de Kolkata’s title winner Mohammad Rafique.Week 2 ends with Army XI topping the table with 3 wins out of 4 games, followed by East Bengal with 2 wins out of 3 games.
