If we stick to the plan, we can beat Jamshedpur FC: Hyderabad FC’s Conor Nestor
Hyderabad FC first team coach, Conor Nestor, is setting his sights on nothing less than a victory against Jamshedpur FC.
Hyderabad FC first team coach, Conor Nestor, is setting his sights on nothing less than a victory as his team prepares to face Jamshedpur FC in their second match of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Thursday.
Hyderabad FC kicked off their campaign with a heartbreaking 1-2 loss against East Bengal FC, conceding a late goal in stoppage time. They will be eager to bounce back against a Jamshedpur FC side that has struggled, having bagged only one point from two winless games. Nestor called on his team to gain momentum with a win against Jamshedpur FC and expressed confidence in their ability to secure all three points.
“Momentum is very important in football and when you pick up points and start winning that momentum carries you through. Both clubs are in the same position coming into this game off a loss. Both teams will have the same idea of trying to pick up a win and to build that momentum going forward. That’s what we have come here to do and if we stick to the plan, I believe we can do it,” Nestor said in the pre-match press conference.

In their previous match against East Bengal FC, Felipe Amorim, Joe Knowles, Oswaldo Alanis, Vignesh Dakshinamurthy, as well as midfielder Petteri Pennanen, made their ISL debuts for Hyderabad FC. Despite the defeat, Pennanen put in a good shift in the middle of the park and registered a passing accuracy of 95 percent. Nestor expressed his satisfaction with Pennanen and the other new signings, expecting them to improve with each passing game.
“Pete along with all other new signings we have brought, ticks a lot of boxes according to me. He has experience, very good game intelligence and is a top professional. Those are the kind of guys I want around the players that are already here, who also tick those boxes as well. He’s fit into the group really well and it’s a strong and united group with a great mindset. I think he did quite well against East Bengal FC. But what I can say about Pete and every other player, is that the best is yet to come. Step by step, game by game, everyone will start to see that,” Nestor explained.
Nestor was accompanied by midfielder Sahil Tavora in the pre-match press conference. Tavora highlighted the valuable lessons and positives the team gained from their defeat against East Bengal FC, emphasising how it has prepared them for the upcoming clash with Jamshedpur FC.
“After the last game, we learnt a lot about our team including the positives and the things we need to work on. Those 90 minutes have helped us prepare for this game. We’ve come here to put on a good show and hopefully get the win,” Tavora stated.
Nestor also confirmed that Jonathan Moya and Lalchungnunga Chhangte would miss the game due to injuries. On a positive note, he announced the availability of goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh, Abdul Rabeeh, and Chinglensana Singh, who have returned from national team duty.
