FC Goa midfielder Brison Fernandes has quickly become a name to watch. At just 24 years old, the midfielder from Loutolim has made significant strides with FC Goa, during the recently concluded Indian Super League (ISL) season. His presence on the field proved to be highly influential, evidenced by his attacking output and Fernandes also was named Emerging Player of the Season.

He managed to find the back of the net seven times, showcasing his ability to score crucial goals for the side. In addition to his goal-scoring exploits, he also provided two assists, demonstrating his capacity to create opportunities for his teammates and contribute to the overall attacking play.

FC Goa head coach Manolo Marquez, also in charge of the Indian football team, having recognized the player's underlying potential and skill, handed Fernandes a call-up to the national team ahead of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers. The youngster made his debut off the bench during India’s goalless draw against Bangladesh.

“Given the performances (through the season), I was expecting a call,” Fernandes told The Times of India in an interview.

“I had mentally prepared myself. When I took the field, it was like a dream come true. Ever since I started playing football professionally, the dream was to wear the India colours.” He added.

Brison's assignment on India duty presented him with an almost surreal experience. He found himself sharing the dressing room with players he had long held in high esteem, among these revered figures was his own teammate from FC Goa, Sandesh Jhingan. Which allowed for easy conversation and interaction, making the whole situation even more remarkable and personally significant.

“I felt good when Sandesh said it didn’t feel like it was my first game with the national team,” he stated.

Brison's relentless off-season training has paid off, making him the first Indian player in ISL history to score twice in consecutive matches. Despite FC Goa's failure to secure silverware, he earned the ISL's Emerging Player of the Season award, solidifying his status as a promising young Indian football star. He acknowledges that this is just the beginning of his career.

“I have lots to learn from the seniors. I have to grow as a footballer and, more importantly, bring consistency in my game. Every game I play, I have to be top notch,” said Fernandes as he concluded.
