How Krishna became more than ATK's star striker in Hero ISL 2019-20
ATK FC frontman Roy Krishna, who recently signed a one-year extension with the three-time Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) champions, has revealed how he performed more than just the role of a striker for the club last season.
Besides finding the back of the net 15 times and providing six assists in Hero ISL 2019-20, Krishna explained how at times last campaign he donned the role of translator in the team. “I had huge respect for the local boys especially. You know they supported me and even though our foreign boys like the boys from Spain couldn’t understand Hindi, I was there to translate Hindi to English to the foreign boys,” he was quoted saying in fbcnews.com.fj.
The Fiji international acted as a bridge for the foreign players who couldn’t understand Hindi and translated it to English for them. However, that wasn’t the only responsibility that he embraced while at ATK last season. When he joined the club at the start of Hero ISL 2019-20, little did he know then that he would be named captain of the side just a few games into his time with the club.
“It was a shock for me because there was a lot of players that played for the club. But look (being) captain doesn’t mean you are a special player. It’s just from day 1, the coach told everyone that everyone is important. To put that arm band there was more responsibilities (for me),” he said.
One of the club’s go-to players when the chips were down last campaign, Krishna will have even more added responsibilities in the upcoming Hero ISL season as he sets his sights on making ATK the first club to successfully defend their title in league history, while also looking to make an impact with them in continental competition.
