The final round of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 season livened things up as we witnessed records being made, records being broken, and teams accomplishing historic feats, all in all, notching the level of the Hero ISL a bar higher.

Round 22 begun with Jamshedpur FC’s thumping 5-1 victory over Odisha FC. In the following game, Bengaluru FC edged past SC East Bengal in a 1-0 win, ending their season with a victory.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad FC secured a 2-1 win over Mumbai City FC, demolishing their only hopes of securing a semi-final spot. Match four of the round saw an end-to-end game between FC Goa and Kerala Blasters FC in an exhilarating encounter where both sides shared the spoils in a 4-4 draw, arguably one of the most exciting matches of this season.

The most competitive match of the league phase was saved for the last as ATK Mohun Bagan clashed with Jamshedpur FC in a bid for the League Winners’ Shield with the latter creating history and winning their first-ever Shield in a 1-0 win.

Lara Sharma (Bengaluru FC) - 8.56

The shotstopper won the Hero of the Match in their clash against SC East Bengal as he showed his excellence between the posts, keeping a clean sheet and saving all five of the shots he faced on goal.

Defenders

Mourtada Fall (Mumbai City FC) - 7.27

The defender scored the only goal for his side in their encounter against Hyderabad FC. Defensively, Fall made six clearances, two blocks, and an interception.

Yaya Banana (Bengaluru FC) - 7.4

Bengaluru FC’s new signing got off the mark with an assist in his side’s meeting with SC East Bengal. Banana also created a goalscoring chance and made seven clearances, two interceptions, and one block.

Alan Costa (Bengaluru FC) - 7.35

Costa was influential in the backline, guiding the play from the back, making 42 passes with an accuracy of 93% while also making four interceptions, three clearances, and two blocks.

Roshan Naorem (Bengaluru FC) - 7.21

The full-back offered offensive support with three shots, a goalscoring chance, and two free-kicks. Defensively, Naorem made three blocks, two tackles, two interceptions, and one clearance.

Midfielders

Ritwik Das (Jamshedpur FC) - 8.17

Das delivered a brilliant performance for his side across both fixtures. The midfielder scored one in their game against Odisha FC. In their match against ATK Mohun Bagan, Das netted the solitary goal of the match, helping his side lift the League Winners’ Shield.

Alexandre Lima (Jamshedpur FC) - 7.21

Lima powered through the midfield for his side as he created two goalscoring chances, had a crisp passing accuracy of 88%, made four tackles, one clearance and a block each in their battle against Odisha FC.

Cassio Gabriel (Mumbai City FC) - 7.17

Gabriel was a vital cog in their encounter against Hyderabad FC as he provided an assist and created four goalscoring chances.

Forwards

Airam Cabrera (FC Goa) - 9

Highest rated player of this round and rightly so. Cabrera came off the bench and scored a sensational hat-trick, bringing his side back into the game. Cabrera converted three out of his four shots and was scintillating throughout the 44 minutes, winning the Hero of the Match award.

Sunil Chhetri (Bengaluru FC) - 8.54

The Blues’ wizard found himself back on the scoresheet after scoring the lone goal in their match against SC East Bengal. Chhetri hit all of his shots on target and maintained a passing accuracy of 76%.

Greg Stewart (Jamshedpur FC) - 8.52

Another round, another Greg super show. The Scotsman provided four assists and created five goalscoring chances across both the games. Highly influential in the attack, Stewart nears his presence towards the Hero ISL Golden ball.
