ATK Mohun Bagan earned a resounding 5-0 victory over Blue Star SC to qualify for the next round of the 2022 AFC Cup Qualifiers.

A goal by David Williams and a brace each by Manvir Singh & Joni Kauko helped the Mariners beat the Sri Lankan outfit. Head Coach Juan Ferrando was delighted with his team’s performance.

Ferrando  addressed the media after Tuesday's win.

Here are some excerpts from their press conference:

How does it feel to win the first match in the 2022 AFC Cup campaign?

Yeah, to be honest in the first 10 minutes it was difficult for us to find it in the moment, to find the spaces because their press in the first 10 minutes was very good and so for us, it is very important to control the transitions because, in the first half, it created difficult moments. The nice thing is that the supporters help us in difficult moments. But I'm happy for the work of the players.

Who do you want to dedicate this victory to?

To be honest, I'm thinking about next Tuesday. It's time to enjoy for the players until tomorrow and for the fans, this will be a good moment but to be honest, this is football and the next match is the next Tuesday. It will be like a final and it's very important for us that we don't forget to focus on the next game.

Do you have any idea of your next opponents?

Yeah, I watched some games only in the championship, because you know we play in the playoffs. It's difficult to try to find some information in this competition. But in the championship, I like this team. It is a good team in transition.

They have (good) transition offensively, they are very clear, they use three areas. The team is compact and is not a typical team to play. And also, I think it's very important to pay attention in the pressing because for us, it's very important to keep the ball in these cases.

ATK Mohun Bagan midfielder Joni Kauko also addressed to the questions put forward by the media.

Here are the excerpts from the player's conference:

With the fans being back in the stands, was it extra motivation for today?

It was amazing. It's been a while since we've played in front of fans. It was amazing. I think that they helped us today a lot.

When you came here, you just played in Europe. So how did you cope with this standard of football?

Of course, football is a bit different here. It starts all the way from the roots. I think it starts with a different kind of grass, different colored balls, the players a little bit different. There are a lot of differences in things that I'm used to.

But I think that was also one of the things why I wanted to come in because I wanted to experiment with something completely different than I'm used to. I've surely got that already so far. And I can't wait to see more and experience more. So far everything's gone well. I'm really happy here.
