Two-time Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) champions, ATK FC will be up against Chennaiyin FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Sunday. Despite being near to flawless and having already registered their berth in the semi-finals, ATK cannot afford to rest as they aim to write the coveted top spot on the table to their name.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, their head coach Antonio Habas previewed the game and stressed the importance of winning three points. He said, “The team is in a good moment. The performance of the team is positive, but we have to continue playing. The opponent is Chennai. We have to play to win. It will be a good match because Chennai play good football and we also play good football. The target is the same as every match - to win. I think that ATK have kept their level for a long time.”

When asked if he had taken any notes from Bengaluru on how to stop the free-scoring Chennaiyin, Habas answered, “All matches are different matches because the opponent is different and the situation is different. Now, we have to take a decision depending on what’s the best plan for us. It depends on the situation of the team.”

The Spaniard also revealed the tireless work done by the entire club into making their season a successful one so far. “I think that football is a mix of everything. I think this year ATK has, for me, had good professionals inside and outside the pitch. It is important. When players are professional, you have less problems, less conflict. I think that ATK, this year, have had very good professional players. After that, the behaviour of the staff has also been fantastic,” he said.

Lastly, the ATK head coach invited the dilemma of having to choose from a number of in-form forwards. He commented, “I prefer to have this problem. The problem is when I don’t have good players. Right now, it is perfect. The possibility to play Edu (Garcia), (David) Williams and other good players is the best thing for a coach.”

Garcia, who was also in attendance at the media briefing, said, “I think, they (Chennaiyin) are a very good team. They are also in a very good moment. It will not be easy. But we are also a good team. We have very good players in attack. So, I think, on Sunday we can see a very good match.”

He further added, “I always work to be 100%. Unfortunately, I had a small injury some time ago, but now, I am fine and good. I am working as always. I am always trying to give my best.”
