Mumbai City FC moved to second in the table in the 2016 Hero Indian Super League after an exhilarating 3-3 draw against Delhi Dynamos FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday. Mumbai went into the break with a 2-0 lead courtesy of a first-half brace by Krisztian Vadocz. Richard Gadze reduced the deficit for the Dynamos early in the second period before Sony Norde netted in the 69th minute to restore Mumbai’s two-goal cushion. However, a goal by substitute Badara Badji and a Marcelinho penalty in the last 15 minutes of the game saw the match finish all square after 90 minutes of end-to-end action. Speaking to the media at the post-match press conference, Mumbai City FC head coach Alexandre Guimaraes made it clear that he had nothing but pride for the way his players performed on Tuesday in spite of blowing a two-goal advantage (2-0 and 3-1) twice in the game.“I think we had a fantastic game. It was a good game. The rival played well too. Of course, we are disappointed with the result but overall these kind of games are also the objective of the Hero ISL. It was an offensive game with 22 players giving their all to get a result. Unfortunately, sometimes this happens. I am very proud of my team’s performance. We drew the game and at least got a point,” said Guimaraes. The game also saw Mumbai’s goals come from different sources having gone into Tuesday’s encounter with only Matias Defederico and Diego Forlan being their goal-scorers from their previous four matches. It was something that hadn’t gone unnoticed by Mumbai’s gaffer as he expressed his satisfaction. “Yes, of course I am happy. We cannot always depend on Matias Defederico to keep scoring for us. We play a creative game which creates opportunity for other players to score. It is fantastic for us,” he said.Guimaraes was all praise for Norde, who gave all Delhi defenders a tough time besides scoring his first goal of the season. “He is an important player for Mumbai City FC. He is a kind of player who always wants to play. However, it is very important that we manage the players’ playing time. We don’t want to lose more players. He played very well and showed how important player he is for us,” the 56-year-old said. When asked for his thoughts on Vadocz’s stellar showing for Mumbai on the night, the Costa Rican added: “He has been performing similarly from the very first game. He is a very intelligent player. He understands the game and what I want from him in that role. He just keeps getting better. He has the physical fitness to continue playing in this way.”
