Mumbai City FC might be one of the front-runners for the semi-finals of the 2016 Hero Indian Super League but head coach Alexandre Guimaraes is not complacent and has urged his players to put their best foot forward when they take on hosts FC Goa at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Wednesday evening. With 15 points from 10 games, Mumbai can top the table and strengthen their semis hopes with a win tomorrow and Guimaraes, whose side lost to the Gaurs earlier in the season, wants his team equal to the task.“The way the league has been so far, there are no favourites at all and anyone can beat anyone. Yes, we are in a better position than them but they did a fantastic job in the last game, which allows them to continue their fight. And when you have to play against a team like that you know it is going to be tough for us,” Guimaraes told reporters on Tuesday. In light of a 1-0 defeat by FC Pune City in their last match, Guimaraes also insisted his players weren’t heading into the match with a cautious approach and that they won’t be playing for a draw. “No not at all [when asked if a draw will be a good result], because first we want to recover the points that we lost in the last game and we want to remain in the top four. So, I hope we can continue to be in the top four after tomorrow’s game and I always think about the three points,” the 57-year-old said.Last year Mumbai suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat at Fatorda with Thongkhosiem Haokip and Dudu scoring hat-tricks for the Gaurs. When asked if that defeat could have some bearing on the match tomorrow, Guimaraes replied in the negative. “No, I don’t think so. I cannot say anything about the last season as the team and technical staff is new this season and of course they beat us in Mumbai [earlier this season] and they profited and I hope tomorrow we can get a good result. Every game is different and tomorrow will be tough.”The Costa Rican also predicted an attacking game for Wednesday. “Here the stadium is crowded and the two coaches like to play attacking football as they have the right players…It is a game that everybody will like to watch.”Mumbai have done well on the road this year as three of their four wins have come away. When asked if that could be a factor on Wednesday, Guimaraes said: “I think sooner rather than later we have to get the points to continue being in the top four and in the beginning when we saw our calendar that we have our last three games at home we felt good as it cuts down on our travel and because it is our home. It is where we have to get the points. Points that we have won away are like a bonus but we have to do our job at home and if we win tomorrow and have nothing at home, then we are not in, so we have to take points in the last three games that will put us in a good position to qualify.”
