It’s a bit of an irony but central defender Grégory Arnolin is the leading scorer for FC Goa with two strikes, even as his colleagues in the front line continue to muff their chances. Today, Grégory did not score but his team kept a clean sheet in a goalless draw against Mumbai City FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa. The burly Frenchman however insists that he would prefer his side to win the game instead of getting on the score sheet himself.“I'm a defender. I prefer to win the game and not score. I'm happy to help my team with goals, but my job is that of a defender. We've had only one win. We have to win more,” Grégory told indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive conversation after the match.Grégory, who has played in France, Portugal and Spain, feels that the Hero Indian Super League is a good competition and Goa are a good team, but if they don’t score it gets complicated. The 33-year-old player, who has represented Martinique in international competition, feels that Zico is a “good man” and the team learns from him every day.About marquee player Robert Pirès, he opined, “Pirès helps the team so much. He's a good person. And we learn from him every day, tactically.” The Frenchman also played down the absence of Brazilian playmaker André Santos who missed the last couple of games due to injury. “Santos is a good player for us, but all our players are important. There are 27 of us, and all 27 are important,” he emphasised.Asked about how he coped with the challenge of marking his countryman Nicolas Anelka, Grégory said, “He's a big player! I had watched Anelka on TV and I thought he was very quick and very good technically, especially his finishing.”The Frenchman also feels that the ISL has proved to be beneficial for Indian players. “There are very good players in the ISL. Tactically, the players learn every day. The ISL has been good for the Indian players,” he affirmed.
