Delhi Dynamos FC have one final chance to pick up their first victory of the season before the calendar year comes to an end when they take on defending champions Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. The Lions have failed to win in any of their 11 matches so far, despite playing free-flowing football. In the reverse fixture back in October, a goalkeeping masterclass from Francisco Dorronsoro ensured Delhi salvaged a point. This time, however, only a victory can lift the spirits of the Delhi faithful.

At the pre-match conference, Delhi head coach Josep Gombau shared his thoughts on the match. "It is true that tomorrow the match will be between two bottom teams in the Hero ISL. For us, it is an important game to try and win in this competition this year. So, we come with this mentality. I know that for Chennaiyin too, this is also an important game. But I hope that we can win," he said.

Talking about his side’s overall performances throughout the season, Gombau admitted that there is scope for improvement on multiple fronts. "We are playing good football. We are creating chances, but we are not scoring too much which is a problem. But we can also improve a lot in the defensive aspects because we are conceding goals. We are not getting the results, which is a bit frustrating," he stated.

Gombau also confirmed that Delhi will be without Adria Carmona, who picked up an injury against Jamshedpur FC.

Gombau further stressed the importance of the side taking their chances to ensure they come out of the match with a victory. "My opinion is that we are playing quite well. We started the season very very late. A lot of circumstances meant that we didn’t have a lot of foreign players until a few weeks before the start of the season. We have had a lot of games in a short time. Now that we have everybody available, we are playing good but we are not winning. We need to take our chances and score to win the game," he said.
