Brazilian star Elano Blumer, who played for Chennaiyin FC in Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2014 and 2015, has been named as the new coach of Sao Paulo-based Brazilian side Inter de Limeira. This will be Elano's first stint as a head coach. The Brazilian World Cupper, however, has previously worked as an assistant manager for Brazilian giant Santos and has also served as the side's interim coach on two separate occasions.

To recall, Elano was Chennaiyin's marquee player for the first two editions of the Hero ISL and was the first-ever Golden Boot winner in the league's history having scored 8 goals in his debut season in India. The former Manchester City midfielder also helped the team win the title with four goals and four assists in the second season.

The move marks an emotional return for Elano to a club he previously played for as an 18-year-old back in 2000-2001. The Chennaiyin fan-favourite took to Instagram and posted an image of himself in Inter's black and white jersey and wrote, "Time to rewrite one of the most important stories of my life."

Elano's former Brazil teammate Roberto Carlos, who, too, played in the Hero ISL for Delhi Dynamos FC back in 2015, was amongst the first to congratulate Elano on the appointment, calling him 'professor'.

"I played in big clubs, won important titles, represented our country playing in the 2010 World Cup. For the national team, there were more than 60 call ups. And most importantly, I gained knowledge and respect in the world of football. But this same fate puts us face to face again. Now to write a new story together,” Elano said after formalizing the appointment with the club.
