Fikru Teferra, who starred for Atlético de Kolkata in the Hero Indian Super League, has joined Bidvest Wits FC of the Premier Soccer League in South Africa. The forward joins the Johannesburg-based club on a six-month contract.Fikru scored five goals for Atlético de Kolkata during the ISL and also had two assists to his credit. He was one of the top contenders for the Golden Boot Award. Fikru will also go down in history as the ISL’s first ever goalscorer as he opened his account against Mumbai City FC in Kolkata. A constant threat to opposition throughout the tournament, he also scored a couple of spectacular goals.The star striker will get the opportunity to link up with former coach Gavin Hunt, who was his coach at SuperSport United during a successful stint for the club, as they won back-to-back Premier Soccer League titles in 2008 and 2009. Hunt is now manager of Bidvest Wits.The Ethiopian international began his career in his home country with Ethiopian Premier League giants Saint George SC, before moving to South Africa to turn out for powerhouses Orlando Pirates. Along with the Pirates and SuperSport United, Fikru also played for Premier Soccer League clubs University of Pretoria FC and Free State Stars FC in South Africa, as well as FK Mladá Boleslav in the Czech Republic, KuPS in Finland, and Thanh Hoa FC in Vietnam.
