Indian men’s football team is set to face a doubleheader against Afghanistan in the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup Joint Qualifiers as they look to advance to the third round of the World Cup qualifiers for the first time in their history. 

The Blues Tigers take on Afghanistan in the away match in Saudi Arabia on March 21 before the return leg at home in Guwahati on March 26. 

Igor Stimac’s side currently sit third in Group A of the second round of qualifiers after a victory against Kuwait and a defeat against Qatar. Thus the twin games against Afghanistan could be pivotal for their chances of progressing to the next round ahead of their games against Kuwait and Qatar to conclude the group.
