Ferrando wants more intensity from FC Goa players after narrow win

FC Goa won their second game of the season as they beat Odisha FC 1-0 at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim on Saturday. Igor Angulo scored his sixth goal of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21 as the Gaurs recorded their first clean sheet of this season besides moving into the top-4 on the points table. Though head coach Juan Ferrando wasn’t entirely happy.
“I am about 70% happy with the performance. We need more intensity from the players. In my opinion, we should not lose the ball while building the game.” Ferrando said in the post-match press conference.
Edu Bedia was rested with Alberto Noguera starting for the Gaurs and Ferrando explained why this was done. “We have three games this week. We believe in all the players and sometimes it is necessary to make changes. In this case, Edu Bedia has been unwell for the last two games but he is better now. That is why we decided to play with Alberto Noguera,” he said.
“We have one plan in the training sessions and it is necessary to prepare the line-up depending on our plan for a particular opponent. Maybe, in the next game we will change the line-up,” he added.

Meanwhile, Odisha FC head coach Stuart Baxter rued his team’s performance on the night. “Team talks are not easy when you concede so late [in the first half]. We did not open up the game when we won the ball. We were quite good in blocking the spaces but we did not have the quality while in possession,” he said.
Baxter was also disappointed that Odisha could not transfer their training ground routines onto the pitch on Saturday. “We lost the ball too many times and gave them possession. FC Goa are very good when they have possession especially higher up the field. I am disappointed that we are not transferring more from the training ground onto the matchday,” he said.
