Narayan Das and Augustin Fernandes are set to bolster FC Pune City’s defence in the third season of the Hero Indian Super League after the club confirmed the signing of both defenders on Tuesday. Das finished runner-up with FC Goa last year and will make his way to the Stallions camp after spending the first two seasons of the Hero ISL with the Gaurs. Fernandes, on the other hand, is set to be reunited with FC Pune City head coach Antonio Habas after working together in Atlético de Kolkata colours last season.“Narayan is a good left-back and has the ability to go forward in the attacking positions which is a fantastic attribute to have. Augustin is a very versatile defender who can adapt to different situations and can own any position in defence given to him,” Habas commented on the signings of Das and Fernandes.Das made nine appearances for FC Goa last season to go with his fourteen from the first. His addition to the Stallions brings a wealth of Hero ISL experience to the Maharashtra-outfit. He completed 25 tackles, seven headers and 13 interceptions for the Gaurs last year and is expected to improve on his Season 2 tally with FC Pune City in the upcoming season.“FC Pune City have built a good team under the guidance of coach Habas and I look forward to making my contribution and helping the team win ISL this year,” said Das.While both incoming defenders are joining a new side, Fernandes will be safe in the knowledge that he will once again work under Habas just as he did last year at ATK. Fernandes made 13 appearances for Atlético de Kolkata last year and completed 47 tackles, 10 headers and 14 interceptions in defence. He also scored a crucial goal at an important stage against Mumbai City FC last season and later made his international bow for India on the back of his displays in the ISL.“It’s always a pleasure to work with coach Habas. I am thankful to FC Pune City and coach Habas for giving me this opportunity to take a new challenge,” said Fernandes after signing for the Stallions.FC Pune City conceded 23 goals in 14 matches in the second edition of the Hero ISL, and Stallions co-owner Hrithik Roshan welcomed their latest defensive recruitments for Season 3. “Both Narayan and Augustin’s addition will strengthen our defence. With their skill and experience we will aim to be the best in the league,” he said.
