After another month of exhilarating football, Igor Angulo has been voted Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21’s Hero-of-the-Month for December following a vote that ended at 12 noon on Monday. Fans and experts cast their votes between January 1 (from 12 noon) and January 4 (till 12 noon).

According to the voting criteria, fans' votes count towards 50% of the vote share and experts' votes account for the remaining 50%. Angulo was the clear winner among the five-man shortlist which also included his teammate Jorge Ortiz Mendoza, ATK Mohun Bagan’s Roy Krishna, Jamshedpur FC’s Peter Hartley and Bengaluru FC’s Suresh Wangjam.

A total of 6042 votes were cast by fans with Angulo securing 2,004 of them in addition to receiving all seven of the experts' votes. Coming close at second was Hero of the Month for November, Krishna, who got 1,795 fan votes. Hartley, Wangjam, and Mendoza got 947, 719 and 577 fans votes respectively.

In what was a tight schedule of fixtures for FC Goa in the month of December, Angulo started strong with a brace against Kerala Blasters FC and then scored the winner against Odisha FC. The Spanish striker was the main difference against Jamshedpur FC as well, converting a penalty to equalise before scoring a late winner in injury time for the Gaurs.

Angulo also ended the month on a high by netting another late winner against Hyderabad FC to finish with six goals from six matches in December. He has now taken a clear lead in the Golden Boot race with nine goals.
