Elano Blumer extended his stay with Chennaiyin FC after the club confirmed that they will be retaining the Brazilian attacker as their marquee signing for Season 2 of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). Elano’s retention comes as a major boost for Chennaiyin as they look to go one step further this season after crashing out in the semi-final stage last year against Kerala Blasters FC.Having won the ISL’s Golden Boot Award last year with a tally of eight goals that featured a couple of scintillating free kicks, the former Manchester City man will be hoping for more of the same as he aims to guide the South Indian side to the prestigious title in the upcoming edition. The Brazilian playmaker also had an assist to his credit during the 2014 campaign and acted as the lynchpin in Chennaiyin’s attack ending the season as the highest scorers of the league. Despite making only 11 appearances in which he managed to get 826 minutes under his belt, the former Brazilian international managed a total 25 shots on target and 23 crosses.Speaking from Sao Paulo, Elano was delighted at coming back for the ISL. “I am thrilled to sign for Chennaiyin FC to play in the second season of the ISL. I have fantastic memories of my first season in India, where I really enjoyed performing in front of some great support especially in our Marina Arena in Chennai. I credit my individual success to the wonderful support I received from the entire Chennaiyin FC family starting from the owners, management, teammates and of course the passionate fans of CFC. I am already looking forward to the second season and determined to make Chennaiyin FC the ISL champions this time,” he exclaimed.Marco Materazzi’s side will host the opening match of the ISL 2015 on October 3rd taking on defending champions Atlético de Kolkata.
