Hyderabad FC coach Manolo Marquez rued his team’s missed chances as they went down 1-0 to Chennaiyin FC despite dominating the game and creating chances in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) on Tuesday.

The Spaniard felt this loss was very hard to take as his team deserved better for their efforts but thought the game also had a lesson for his team that had many young players.

He spoke to the media after the game.

Here are the excerpts from his press conference.

Three of the four games in the first round of the ISL have been quite high scoring, but today it was a very edgy affair to say the least. How do you see this match as compared to the other matches?

For me, it's not too important how the other games went. I am very disappointed with the score. Not with our game. It's true that it was very different from the other games. I think in this game, I don't know how the possession was but I think that most of the time we had control of the ball. We created very clear chances. But if you don't score, then these kinds of things happen. The penalty for me was a clear penalty.

Did your team’s finishing let you down tonight?

I think that we create enough chances to win the game. It was not a comfortable game. But I think that the score is not unfair. We played better than the opponent or had more ball than the opponent. I totally respect the style of Chennai because I think their coaches are great and they had a very good organisation. But I think that our team pressed very well and we had the ball practically all the minutes but if you don't score your chances, then during the 90 minutes, the other team can score.

You made four attacking substitutions in one minute. Was that a sign of desperation to get that equaliser?

We were losing at that moment so we made four changes in a minute. The team was okay at that moment but it is difficult with young players. We played too many long balls in the last minutes. But okay, we had to take risks and I'm satisfied. This defeat is hard to take. But I think that the team didn't deserve to lose this game.

What is the extent of Halicharan Narzary’s injury?

I don't know because it was very early in the game. And I didn't speak with him after the game. I don't know if he has a knee problem or a muscle problem. I don't know in this moment.
