Chennaiyin FC skipper Bojan Djordjic was disappointed with his side’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of a rampant FC Goa side. Chennai had already qualified for the semi-final stage of the tournament, but the loss meant they lost their unbeaten record at home.Djordjic believes his side were the more dominant team on the night despite the loss. “We started really bright, Goa’s first shot came after 22 minutes and the second one resulted in being 2-0. We had more of the ball, we were the better side but all in all and it wasn’t such a bad defeat like we faced against Delhi and NorthEast. Here we had more of the possession, we created some chances,” said the Swedish midfilder. The biggest disappointment of the night for Djordjic and his teammates was to lose their proud home record and send the Chennai fans home disappointed for the first time all season. Nonetheless, the captain was certain the home fans were proud of their team, especially as they were the first to qualify for the knockout stage. He said “Everybody loses games, we’re still first on the table, sometimes people are a little critical of us but we’ve scored most goals, we’ve qualified first out of all the teams so we do have some strength in depth.”The former Machester United man also believes that his team still remain at pole position and are the strongest contenders for the title. “We beat Kerala 1-0 in Kerala and we’ve scored the most goals. Plus we qualified first, so I think that we’re the team to beat at the moment,” said an enthusiastic Djordjic.Chennai have just one game left before the semi-finals, and, despite the loss, they remain at the top of the league. They will look to end the first stage of the tournament on a high, and wrap up first place in the final standings, by beating Delhi Dynamos at home on December 9. “Of course, when you come this far, anything but winning the trophy is a disappointment. But, we’re confident and we will rise again,” commented Djordjic.
