Bengaluru FC, who have been the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2018-19's standout performers, will take on their closest rivals NorthEast United FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday. The Blues currently lead the table with 22 points from eight matches, while NorthEast are right on their heels with 18 points from nine.
At the pre-match press conference, Bengaluru head coach Carles Cuadrat spoke to the media about the highly-anticipated encounter. The Spaniard began by talking about how the team has evolved since he took over the reins from Albert Roca in the summer. "I think we are keeping on with the same philosophy. We are quite similar in the footballing aspects. I can feel that the players are working even harder. Maybe because the players know me. I can feel that they are very committed in their defensive aspects and it is nice for a coach to see that," he said proudly.
Cuadrat also had some warm words for his opponents, who have really shown a considerable improvement this season. "I think that they are playing very well. We are happy that teams are making a step forward and growing as a club. All of their games, that I have seen till now, have shown that there has been a lot of work put into creating a competitive team. They have also been working very well in scouting, bringing in very talented players. So, I think it is a club that is developing a lot," he remarked.
Bengaluru defender Rahul Bheke has been the league’s standout player in the month of November, contributing heavily both in defence and attack. Cuadrat heaped praise on his right-back and said, "He is having a fantastic season and we are very happy with him. He is an excellent player and he is improving day by day. He is getting better not only in the physical aspect but also in reading the games. I am just happy with the way he is helping the team in getting results."
