Mumbai City FC will be high on confidence after emerging triumphant against local rivals FC Pune City in the first Maha Derby of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2018-19. The Islanders will be on the road for the second time this campaign and they have a tough game to look ahead to against FC Goa at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Wednesday.

Ahead of their game against the Gaurs, Jorge Costa, head coach of Mumbai was present at the pre-match press conference, answering questions from the media. He commenced by reflecting on the significance of the win against Pune City. “The last game was very important for us. Especially because of the confidence. We didn’t start the league well, after making a good game against Kerala (Blasters) we took one point. Finally, we got the three points at home against Pune.”

When asked to assess his opponents, the Portuguese offered plenty of compliments to Goa but was confident in his team’s ability to secure maximum points from the fixture. “They started the league well. They have a very good team, a very good coach. It’s easy to understand that they know what they are doing on the field. I will not speak about any individual player, but we will surely have a very difficult game tomorrow. We respect them a lot but also, we know what to do tomorrow and I hope that we can do the things that I have in my mind. And if we do those things (that I have in my mind) I’m confident we can go home with the three points.”

The 47-year-old also shared his opinion on Mumbai’s dubious defensive record that saw them register their first clean sheet in 12 games against Pune. “I will not speak about last season. Everyone asks me about last season. Last season we won 4-3 here, but it’s a different team and different coaches too. The three points of the last game was very important for our confidence. For me, it’s important to win the games, but if I win the game 4-3, I will not be happy with the result. It is very important to not concede goals. It is important to finish the game having conceded zero,“ Costa opined.
