Kerala Blasters FC head coach Steve Coppell wants an improvement in the scoring department when they take on FC Goa in their Hero Indian Super League 2016 match at Fatorda’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday evening. The Blasters have scored the least number of goals (two in five matches) across all eight teams in the league, and the 61-year-old Englishman hopes to see some goals against the Gaurs. “I think we are well organized at the back but we are not scoring enough goals. As it is said in football, 11 players defend and 11 players attack. We have been defending well because the forwards are doing their part,” Coppell told reporters on Sunday.“Both teams want to win the game. We can only win by going forward. We will attack as much as possible. I know Goa are at home and they will have an added responsibility to win the match. I feel it will be an attacking match from both ends and interesting for the fans.“We don’t want to do well only in one department, we want to perform well in all departments. In training, we try to improve our defence, be more creative in the midfield and be more clinical up front,” he added. With five points from five matches, Kerala face a crying need for more wins. However, Coppell believes it’s still early days in the league and that his team is not out of the reckoning. “We’ve conceded three goals in the league and they have been through deflection of the ball. Luck does play a part in the outcome of the match. I feel every team can be judged only at the end of 14 games. The league is such that if a team wins three games on the bounce they can move to the top,” he said.Kerala’s opponents on Monday, FC Goa are back in form after taking four points from their last two matches. Coppell is wary of Zico’s men, who suffered defeats in their first three matches. “They’ve had a rough start in terms of results, most of the games have been really, really close and that applies to the whole league. If you look at the league there is not much difference between the teams. Past two years, they have been on top of the table under Zico’s guidance. It is a challenge for us to come here and play them on the back of a victory. We are looking forward to the game and hope everyone enjoys it.”Coppell also believes that home advantage is not such a big factor in the Hero ISL and he explains why. “The stadiums here are different from the stadiums that we have in England. The stands are close and intimidating [there]. The few of the stadiums here have a running track around them and they are not as intimidating. I won’t argue with Zico in this regard, I too feel that playing at home is not a very big advantage,” he said.
