The Indian national football team will be in action for the first time since their memorable 1-0 win over Myanmar in their opening match of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers in March earlier this year. The Blue Tigers are set to face Nepal in a friendly at the Mumbai Football Arena on Tuesday as part of the build-up to their second AFC Asian Cup qualifiers match against Kyrgz Republic at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on June 13.National team head coach Stephen Constantine offered an insight into the mood in the camp while speaking to indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive interview ahead of the match against Nepal. “We have three or four players who are coming to us with injuries and some are more serious than others, but I think it's part of the game and we have to deal with this. Overall the atmosphere in the camp is very good. The boys now understand what we want, what we're looking for and what our objective is. From that point of view, we are okay,” he said.Constantine took the opportunity to thank India’s passionate football fans and hoped that Tuesday’s encounter against Nepal will see the fans get behind the side in a similar way to their last fixture at the Mumbai Football Arena against Puerto Rico last year. “When your people are supporting you, it gives you that bit more courage and motivation. We had great support here in Mumbai during the last game against Puerto Rico. In fact, everywhere we go in India, we have great support and on behalf of me and the players I'd like to say thank you to the people because without the people behind us it's more difficult, so hopefully we get a good crowd and they support us in the game against Nepal,” the Englishman said. The 54-year-old also made it clear that although it is a friendly, there will be no change in the approach, mind-set and intensity of his side. “We approach every game in the same way, we're in it to win it. We don't plan to lose, obviously it depends on how the players perform on the day, it's a different matter but if we do our job, if we do the right thing, we give ourselves a good chance to win. The Nepal game will be no different than the Iran game or the Oman game. Everybody has the respect from us but we're not afraid of anybody. And if we do the things we can do then we expect a good result,” Constantine said. When asked about his expectations from the team having recently broken into the top 100 of the FIFA rankings, Constantine said: “The same as they were when we were 173. Our expectations or my expectations are that we need to win or try to win every game we're in. We need to be competitive and want the players to fight for their position. We need players to play under pressure because that's what the game is about. And I think when we do something positive, it’s fine we move on to the next.“We won our last game against Myanmar which was a difficult game but it’s finished now and we have to look forward to Kyrgz Republic and before Kyrgz Republic we have to look at a Nepal side full of energy. They're fighters and we will have to match them to show our quality.”Lastly, commenting on how the game against Nepal can influence their encounter against Kyrgz Republic, Constantine said: “We look for a good performance. We’ll look at some players who maybe haven't had too many opportunities, we look for them to step up. We want to create an atmosphere where no one is guaranteed [a place]. If you play well, you give yourself an opportunity. I think for the players it's a huge honour to represent India and the more people we have fighting to play for India, the more difficult it becomes for players who are already there. We try to create an atmosphere of competition so that whoever plays gives everything they have everytime they play.”
