Stephen Constantine, the head coach of the Indian national team, has announced a preliminary 34-man squad for South Asian Football Federation Championship’s preparatory camp. A host of players from the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) have been selected for the camp which kicks-off from July 28.

Constantine has decided to go for a young squad, opting to leave out some of the senior players such as Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Sandesh Jhingan. However, the squad is still replete with talent, most notably - Udanta Singh, Anirudh Thapa and Vishal Kaith. Sumeet Passi of Jamshedpur FC is the oldest player in the squad at 23 years of age.

The tournament will comprise of seven South Asian teams comprising India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives and Nepal. India will begin their defence of the title with a group encounter against Sri Lanka on September 6 before taking on Maldives for their second group game. The tournament which is to take place in Bangladesh will conclude on September 15.
