The final phase of Premier Skills India commences on Saturday at Reliance Corporate Park in Navi Mumbai. The Premier Skills initiative, a joint collaboration by Premier League, British Council, and Hero Indian Super League (ISL), will take place for a period of six days ending May 17. The programme will consist of a coaching workshop from 12th to 17th May as well as a referees’ workshop from 15th to 17th May.

The coaching workshop will be conducted by Jez Weeks, Premier League coach educator. He will be supported by Rashid Abba, Jill Scott and Sam Hoare – representatives from West Ham United, Newcastle United and Manchester City respectively. A total of 41 Indian coaches, who are representatives from the Hero ISL clubs and a few NGOs across the country, will take part in the six-day workshop.

Over the course of the coaching workshop, the participants will engage in practical sessions at Reliance Corporate Park as well as theoretical sessions at Beverly Park. The practical sessions on the pitch will cover the fundamental aspects of the game such as passing, dribbling, attacking, and defending. Theory will cover a breadth of topics ranging from developing long term plans for football projects to barriers to women in football participation.

Garry Willard and Steve Bratt of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) will preside over the referees’ workshop. The duo has extensive experience in referee development and education in England. The sessions, which begin on Tuesday, will feature a total of 30 participants from across the country. They will participate in practical sessions at Reliance Corporate Park where key aspects will be covered including decision making at crucial times and dealing with aggressive players. Theoretical sessions at Beverly Park will include conflict resolution, simulation and dealing with tactical fouls.

The Premier Skills programme will culminate in a tournament and an award ceremony on the final day. Stay tuned to indiansuperleague.com and our social channels for all related coverage.
