Chrenyshov on Mohammedan SC’s consecutive losses and goal-scoring drought
The Mohammedan SC head coach analyzed their 0-3 defeat against the Blasters, their lack of efficiency in the opponent's half, and more.
Mohammedan Sporting Club head coach Andrey Chernyshov underscored their inability to find the back of the net after suffering a 0-3 defeat against Kerala Blasters FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi in the Indian Super League (ISL).
Despite the first half ending on level terms, the Blasters displayed a resilient performance on their home turf in the second half, snapping their three-match losing streak. Bhaskar Roy’s own goal broke the deadlock, handing a crucial lead to the hosts.
Noah Sadaoui and Alexandre Coeff also found their names on the scoresheet as Kerala Blasters FC sealed all three points to complete a league double against the Kolkata giants.
The Mohammedan SC head coach heaped praise on the Blasters’ enthusiastic fanbase and commended their opponent’s performance in the second half.
“Congratulations to Kerala Blasters FC; they won this match. They were better in the second half; they scored the first goal. But it was a nice atmosphere to play football, with 25,000-30,000 people coming to watch the game and support them,” Chernyshov said in the post-match press conference.
It was all square in the opening half with both teams creating spaces in the opponent's half but failing to score the opener. However, the Mohammedan SC goalkeeper Roy made a mistake in the 62nd minute when he misjudged Luna’s corner kick and punched it back to his own net, leaving the visitors a goal down.
Chernyshov highlighted that conceding the opening goal with such an individual error changed the momentum of the match and cost his side points. With that, the Black and White Brigade are now winless in their last nine consecutive matches.
“We played well in the first half. We played with discipline. We played very well in defense. We tried to go in a faster counterattack. But the first half was really not bad for us. But after this serious mistake, we went a little bit down,” he remarked.
Mohammedan SC made a couple of substitutions in the second half, including Cesar Lobi Manzoki, Makan Chothe, and others. However, they managed to create only two chances throughout the game, resulting in another defeat for Chernyshov’s men.
Speaking in context, the head coach shared,
“When one quality team like Kerala Blasters FC got more confidence and more power after scoring the first goal, it was very difficult to play. But we did all that we had. We brought new players into the game. We tried to change this situation.”
“When you do not score, you cannot win the matches. Now it's a really big problem for us to score. When we start to score, then I think the situation will be better for us,” Chernyshov signed off, shedding light on their deficiency in scoring goals.
