Chennaiyin assistant coach Nagul not too perturbed by loss to GoaLeague leaders Chennaiyin were one win away from wrapping up top spot in the league heading into their game against FC Goa. And, they had every reason to be confident that they could achieve the required result, given their current form, and the fact that they were unbeaten at home. So the 3-1 loss to Zico’s side came as a surprise to assistant coach Vivek Nagul and his charges.“Complacency may not have been the only reason, but definitely other reasons are there for the loss, considering we have injuries and yellow cards,” bemoaned a frank Nagul on the event of his side’s first loss at home in the inaugural Hero Indian Super League, against a resurgent Goa, who themselves are now unbeaten in 7 games.Try as they might, Chennaiyin’s attempts to mount a comeback in the game would not pay off, as Goa cruised to a three-goal lead. Nagul felt that this was down to the lack of experience for some of the players in the squad. “The young players lacked the character to come back into the game, but the players with vast experience have that character. This loss is a wake-up call. Perhaps the final wake-up call.”One Chennaiyin youngster’s performance pleased Nagul, however. “Jayesh Rane had a very good outing and it will be the strategy that we will follow in the upcoming game against Delhi. He is young and he is part of a great future for Chennayin FC.”Nagul was not too perturbed about the loss, saying it was better that such a performance happened now rather than in the semifinals. “The loss was better earlier as it was a wake up call. This game gave us an opportunity to play some tiki-taka football and play various tactical formations, so in a way it was good as this may be a pinch for us to wake up,” quipped Vivek Nagul. He also hoped that “the arrival of Elano, Marco and Nesta, will add impetus to the squad and possibly carry the momentum forward.”
