Delhi Dynamos FC marquee player-cum-coach Roberto Carlos has insisted his team won’t go in with a defensive approach against FC Goa in the second leg of their 2015 Hero Indian Super League semi-final at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Tuesday. The Lions, who won the first leg 1-0 in New Delhi through a Robin Singh header, only need a draw to advance to the final. However, Carlos, at the pre-match conference on Monday, made it clear that they had no plans to be defensive. “My team will always be attacking. And the match here will be almost the same as the last one. There will be no change in mentality. We'll shoot on goal. We need one more goal,” Carlos told reporters.Goa will have to win with a two-goal margin to advance to the final. However, the match will head into extra time and then penalty shoot-out in case both teams are tied on aggregate since the Hero ISL doesn’t have the away goal rule. When asked if Delhi missed a trick by not scoring more goals in the first leg, Carlos replied in the negative. “I believe in destiny, in fate, if we didn't score in the last match it’s because we were not destined to. I am not worried about it. I am not worried how many goals we scored in the previous games because we have quality players, they are high level; they are used to playing semi-finals. They have quality, so it’s for each one to do their best tomorrow,” the Brazilian said. When asked if his players were mentally ready for the all-important contest in Goa, Carlos said: “I still haven't spoken to my players. We still have time to talk to the players. They are motivated, they are confident. My job now is only to talk to them before the match. We have to set up some details before the match and then we are ready for the game, to make this our best game of the season.”Florent Malouda, Delhi’s star midfielder this season with eight assists, also accompanied Carlos at the press conference and said the Lions were fully focused on reaching the final. “I would say that I always get a lot of attention [from the opposition] and I see that as a mark of respect. And the way I see this game for us, for our side, is to go in without calculations. Whenever we went in with calculations [in the past], it wasn't good for us. So I think what is important is we are confident. In the league stage, we lost twice against Goa, the first game here, we lost 2-0 and we have learnt from those two games and now we are thinking about reaching the final. There is focus on the game and I’ll make sure everyone in my side is focused like this. We came here to be in the final.”The former France international also shared Delhi’s success formula this season. “I always say when you build a team, you build from the back, a really strong foundation, good defensive organisation. After that you just find the right balance. The main difference I see is the control of possession and movement, and even when we scored a goal, we didn't take our chances. At least we are creating chances and we know how we played and I think that's the main change. Even in the midfield when the players are changing, the coach’s philosophy is the same. We are happy to do it and repeat game after game and play our football.”The former Chelsea star also said the Lions won’t mind emulating the Blues’ defensive style if they scored first on Tuesday. “If we score first, we will park the bus, plane, everything we can put. Our goal keeper will be more than happy with that.”Delhi Dynamos FC’s defence withstood a spate of attacks from the Gaurs forward-line in the last game. Carlos was all praise for his defenders and said they were the reasons behind Delhi’s successful campaign this season. “Our defence is doing better than our attack and as a Brazilian coach it is not normal. But I am glad that the players assumed this responsibility inside the field, except against Chennaiyin FC [which Delhi lost 4-0], and my players know how to play with the ball or without the ball.”When asked to comment on FC Goa head coach Zico, Carlos said: “I cannot compare myself to Zico. Zico is a phenomenon of Brazilian football. Zico made history as a player and as a coach. Now that I am a coach, I can see the way he is working. The biggest happiness of my life is to be in a semi-final against a team that has a coach that I am a fan of. He teaches me a lot. Tomorrow, one of us is going to the final. Of course we have the same objectives. But for me there is no clash with Zico. I am happy and proud to be in a semi-final with Zico. Goa is one team that is good, organized, respected and Zico is responsible for this. I feel proud.”
