Carlos: Want to enjoy the win, not thinking about second leg

Delhi Dynamos FC marquee player-cum-coach Roberto Carlos was pleased as punch following his team’s 1-0 win against FC Goa in the first leg of their Hero Indian Super League semi-final at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Friday evening.

Carlos was all praise for his players and said he would enjoy the victory for now and that he wasn’t’ thinking about the next leg in Goa on December 15. “Firstly, I want to enjoy the win today. I am so happy. Happy with the players, very happy with the supporters who were screaming and singing. This kind of win we have to enjoy a lot. For now, I want to take it easy and enjoy it. We are going to enjoy a lot because we don’t know what’s going to happen there. It’s going to be very tough at Goa. Our goal is to get to the final and we have to get past a very tough team. That’s why I am enjoying now,” the Brazilian told reporters after the game.

Carlos also praised Hero-of-the-Match Gustavo dos Santos and Robin Singh, the lone scorer of the match. “He [dos Santos] was very motivated today. In general, the whole team played very well. Gustavo is an amazing player. So is Robin.”

Robin, who headed in a Chicao cross in the first half, also accompanied Carlos to the press conference and was happy to have contributed to the team’s cause. “To begin with, my goals come with the quality from the team. I work hard to get there but they’ve been supplied by the team,” the striker said.

Talking about the goal that saw him outjump former Brazil defender Lucio, Robin said: “He [Lucio] was obviously going to try and stop me from scoring. One-up over him as you’d say. But it’s Lucio at the end of the day. I should be proud but I wish him all the best for the second leg.”

Carlos also shed light on as to why Adinga and Souvik Chakraborty didn’t feature in the game. “With me, there are no 11 starters, if they perform well in training and in matches. Souvik had an injury. He’s a very good player, one of the best in my team. But he is resting. He will be back. Sehnaj [Singh] played very well and Robert [Lalthlamuana] got a start because he trained very well. He waited for this, worked hard and got a chance. That’s football.”
