Delhi Dynamos FC marquee player-cum-coach Roberto Carlos was gracious in a 3-2 defeat against FC Goa in the last game of the league stage of the 2015 Hero Indian Super League on Sunday. The Lions suffered their first defeat at home this season despite going into the break leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Serginho Greene and Adil Nabi. The Gaurs staged a remarkable comeback at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi through two goals from Romeo Fernandes and one from Joffre in the second half. Carlos, at the post-match press conference, congratulated Zico and his men for their brilliant win.
“Just before Goa scored their first goal, we had four opportunities. I’m not looking at this result. I am very happy with the team work and performance of the first half. In the second half, I have to congratulate Goa for the effort they put in. They deserved it,” the Brazilian said.
Following the result, Goa cemented the top spot while Delhi took the fourth and that means they will face each other again in the semi-finals. Carlos hoped the defeat would serve his players well in the semis. “We still have two matches to go. Now being the semi-final, the players will focus more and I hope they understand that in football nothing is easy,” he said.
The first leg of the semis will be played in Delhi on December 11. When asked about his expectations ahead of the game, Carlos said: “I hope my team performs well, like they did in the first half today. They played so beautifully and were so decisive. I have no complaints to make. Each one of them knows what the defeat means. It means the result will now come in Goa.”
Greene, who scored his first goal this season, also addressed the media and echoed Carlos’ sentiments. “We started well in the first half. Goa gained more control in the second half. If we don’t score, the other team gains momentum. I don’t think the confidence went down. To be honest, I think Goa did a good job. I think everybody did their best. We have to look forward,” he said.
