Bengaluru FC slumped to their first defeat of the season against Mumbai City FC in the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. Rowllin Borges scored the winner for Mumbai in the last minute of injury time, even after Bengaluru managed to come back from behind twice in the course of the game.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Bengaluru head coach Carles Cuadrat opined on their loss at home, “My players did their job as best as they could. We played against an opponent that was really eager to get all the three points. We also needed that of course but in football, many things can happen. It was a great game in the Hero Indian Super League.”

“Sorry to the supporters for the loss, but we tried our best to get one point. They scored from a set-piece. Normally we are strong from set-pieces, but we have to keep fighting,” he added.

The Spaniard spoke about his team’s mistakes which cost them the match against Mumbai, “When you have a game that finishes 2-3, there is a lot of things that are not going well because normally the goals come from mistakes. We have to analyse it and see what went wrong. Mumbai play counter-attacking football and we were in trouble as soon as they went one goal up. They took the advantage after we committed a mistake. After that it was difficult. We worked to get at least one point, but it was difficult.”

Substitute Rahul Bheke had played Borges onside, allowing Mumbai to get the winner in the dying minutes. When asked why Nishu Kumar was replaced by Bheke, Cuadrat shared, “I have always said that I have very versatile players, so I can use different combinations. I saw Nishu had some problems in the first half, so I decided to play Ashique Kuruniyan in that position. As a coach, you try different things to get the best from our players.”
