Chennaiyin FC midfielder Bojan Djordjic thought that the draw against table-toppers Atletico de Kolkata was a fair result and his side deserved at least a point from the game. Marquee player and skipper for the day Elano Blumer converted a penalty in stoppage time to ensure a dramatic 1-1 tie for the hosts at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai tonight.Asked for his thoughts on the game, Djordjic, who remained on the bench for the duration of this match, told www.indiansuperleague.com, “I think the draw was very well deserved. We started brighter, they got a cheap penalty and a sending off, but we came back into the game and I think we deserved at least a point. It was a fair result.”The Swedish player of Serbian origin also thought that the southern team was deserving of its unbeaten run at home. “We have a tough game again on Saturday against the NorthEast United FC who are a good side, so they’re going to give us a test; it’s up to us to get these three days of rest and try to beat them. It’s nice playing at home undefeated, it’s tough, but it’s well deserved,” Djordjic, an award-winning player in the Manchester United junior ranks, observed.Djordjic, who has won titles with several top clubs (Rangers, Red Star Belgrade, AIK) across Europe, also praised his side’s resolve despite playing with 10 men for the major part of the match after goalkeeper Shilton Paul was sent off in the first half. “We have a strong sense of unity, we are strong mentally. Some might crumble under such pressure but we kept on going. It’s not that Atlético had much more of the ball than they expected to have, so I think a point is good enough,” he averred.Djordjic has been nursing a shoulder injury and expects to be back in the near future but for the moment is resigned to sitting it out: “As a club captain you have to be there for your team at all times. It’s just like what Marco (Materazzi) said, ‘it’s not who you are or where you’re from’; sometimes, you have to sit down and have a rest.”
