The final of the Hero Federation Cup was played out between Bengaluru FC and Dempo SC on January 11, 2015 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa. Bengaluru FC (BFC) beat the Goan side 2-1 as India internationals Sunil Chettri and Robin Singh scored for BFC. Tolgay Özbey had pulled one back for Dempo.Despite Bengaluru’s victory it was Dempo and FC Goa player, Romeo Fernandes, who was awarded the Player of the Tournament honour. Australian Tolgay Özbey ended the tournament as joint-top scorer alongside Indian and BFC captain Sunil Chettri.Özbey and Romeo put in some stellar performances as it was their brilliance that guided Dempo to the final. Romeo won Dempo their opening game with a header against East Bengal. This game saw Subhasish Roy Chowdhury (Atlético de Kolkata) put in a fine performance in goal to keep the score at just 1-0. Romeo scored his second goal against Sporting Clube de Goa with a composed finish as Dempo emerged 4-1 winners. He got his third against Mumbai FC and was also involved in fellow FC Goa midfielder Clifford Miranda’s goal as Dempo won 2-0. Romeo scored his fourth and best goal of the tournament against Royal Wahingdoh with a solo effort. He was also involved in most of Dempo’s other goals.Temamate Tolgay Özbey (FC Goa) finished the tournament with six goals to his credit. The former Sydney FC forward was in scintillating form as he scored a hat-trick in Dempo’s 4-1 demolition of Sporting Clube de Goa. He scored a brace against Goans rivals Salgaocar to grant his side a 2-0 victory in the semi-finals of the competition. The Australian also scored in the final against BFC but his solitary goal for Dempo wasn’t enough to beat the side from Karnataka.A number of other Hero ISL stars got their name on the scoresheet. Dudu Omagbemi (FC Pune City) scored a couple of goals with his goal against Royal Wahingdoh proving to be the match-winner for East Bengal. Shylo Malswamtluanga (Delhi Dynamos FC) too scored one goal as East Bengal eventually lost the game to semi-finalists Sporting Clube de Goa, but there was great link-up play between Dudu and Shylo.Biswajit Saha (Atlético de Kolkata) too proved to be a match-winner with his effort against Royal Wahingdoh as Sporting Clube de Goa won their first game of the tournament 2-1. Another Atlético de Kolkata, player Kingshuk Debnath, was the decisive goal-getter in Mohun Bagan’s 1-0 victory over Shillong Lajong. Debnath scored in the dying minutes from a free-kick.Goalkeepers Subrata Paul (Mumbai City FC) of Salgaocar and Subhasish Roy Chowdhury (Atlético de Kolkata) of East Bengal put in sturdy, and sometimes spectacular, performances in goal to keep their teams in contention.
