Atlético de Kolkata’s squad was presented to a packed crowd in Madrid’s Vicente Calderón stadium last night. The stadium is the home ground of Atlético de Madrid, who are co-owners of the Kolkata club.The Hero Indian Super League (ISL) team have been in Spain for a month-long training sojourn, training at the Spanish club’s Los Ángeles de San Rafael training centre just outside of Madrid. Adelardo Rodríguez, the most-capped player in Atlético de Madrid’s history, addressed the Vicente Calderón crowd as the Kolkata players and officials soaked in the experience. The Madrid legend exchanged jerseys bearing the number 14 with Atlético de Kolkata club secretary Subrata Talukdar, representing 2014, the ‘birth year’ of the Kolkata club.The presentation happened at half-time of Atlético de Madrid’s match against Celta Vigo. Atlético de Kolkata’s players were also given a tour of the stadium prior to the presentation. They return to India later this week, kicking off their ISL campaign in the season-opening match against Mumbai City FC at Kolkata’s famous Salt Lake Stadium on October 12.
