Kolkata, Wednesday, March 4, 2026: East Bengal FC take on FC Goa in a crucial encounter in Indian Super League on Thursday, March 4, 2026 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. The match is scheduled to kick off at 17:00 IST and will be streamed live on FanCode and telecast on Sony Sports Ten 2.

East Bengal will look to shake off their 1-2 home loss against Jamshedpur FC in their previous fixture while FC Goa will aim for their third straight win of the season and continue their unbeaten streak. The Gaurs defeated Sporting Club Delhi 1-0 in their last game courtesy a goal from Dejan Dražić.

Speaking ahead of the game, East Bengal head coach Óscar Bruzón said, “Our philosophy is to play to win, not to draw. That sometimes means taking defensive risks. We will analyse and adjust, especially against a team like FC Goa who compete for possession.”

East Bengal are currently fifth in the table with six points from three matches and the head coach spoke about their objective at the end of the season, “Our objective is to finish in the top half of the table. If we can finish top five, that would be fantastic. We believe in steady improvement. We are a more balanced and competitive team now, with room for growth.”

FC Goa, on the other hand, started the season with a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Inter Kashi and then secured back-to-back victories to be placed third in the table with seven points.

Speaking about the management of young players in the side, FC Goa head coach Manolo Márquez said, “It’s very important. You need to push players mentally and give opportunities, especially to young players. Sometimes coaches are afraid to change a winning team, but giving minutes to more players improves competitiveness and training quality.”

The Red and Gold Brigade have been missing some key players from the start of the season and the head coach has acknowledged the same, “Injuries to players like Saúl Crespo, Kevin Sibille, Mohammed Rakip, and Naorem Mahesh Singh. This has affected our depth and consistency. However, Mahesh and Rakip are available, and Saul is completing training and will be in the squad”, Bruzón said.

Speaking about the opposition, Márquez said, “East Bengal are one of the strongest teams in the country. It is important to stop their attacking threat. If you don’t concede, you always have a better chance to win. Clean sheets give you at least one point. Defensive solidity is very important.”

East Bengal midfielder Mohammed Rashid said, “In a 13-match league, every point matters. If you lose or drop points, it becomes challenging. But we had a decent game in the last match. It was just one set-piece and one brilliant action that made the difference. Attacking-wise, we had chances but didn’t capitalize. It was an unfortunate result.”

On joining FC Goa this season, midfielder Abdul Rabeeh said, “I knew before coming that it wouldn’t be easy because there are many established players. But the coach believed in me and trusted me. That’s why I came here. My job is to create chances and give 100 percent for the team.

“Indian players are taking more responsibility this year. We are giving our best and proving that we can perform at this level”, said Rabeeh.

With both teams separated by just a point, Thursday’s encounter promises to be a closely contested affair. East Bengal FC will aim to make the most of home advantage and return to winning ways, while FC Goa will look to maintain their momentum and extend their unbeaten run.
