Jamshedpur FC suffered a disappointing 4-1 loss against Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Thursday. The loss will come as a big blow to Jamshedpur’s top four ambitions in the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 and will go down as a missed opportunity to close in on the coveted fourth spot in the table.

At the post-match press conference, Jamshedpur head coach Antonio Iriondo admitted that the result was a big disappointment for the team and stated, “This game was like the final and it seems like we didn’t have the proper squad to win this match. But there are more matches to come. We have to do well in them.”

The Spaniard also admitted that Chennaiyin were the superior team on the night and remarked, “I am not really happy with the chances we created. The ones we created weren’t quality chances. On the other hand, Chennaiyin created good chances and had quality on the ball. The match seemed like men against kids. Their forward players were very dynamic and their defenders played well.”

Further adding that the absence of defensive mainstay Tiri, who was out with an injury, and playing with a not-fully-fit Sergio Castel up front didn’t help their cause, Iriondo opined, “Chennaiyin’s forward players are very good, they have quality. We had Sergio Castel up front, who is still in pain because of the injury and isn’t fit enough. Their defence was full strength, while we were missing Tiri. We had to play with a lot of young players in the team and it’s very difficult in these situations.”

Iriondo had some special praise in store for Chennaiyin midfielder Rafael Crivellaro. “I think in the first half, we had a lot of ball control and the situation was better. But every time we lost the ball, they came at us and mostly, it was Rafael Crivellaro. He is a very talented player and creates a lot of chances for them. Their forwards are also very good. They had a chance and they scored. In the second half we put more people in midfield, but they still created chances and scored,” he said.
