Albino Gomes sets his sights on the Kalinga Super Cup after NEUFC win
Gomes reflected on his performance against NorthEast United FC in the quarter-final and set his sights on clinching the Kalinga Super Cup title.

When we talk about ‘The Last Line of Defence,’ Jamshedpur FC fans immediately think of Albino Gomes. The Goa-born goalkeeper has been putting in sensational performances throughout the season, playing a pivotal role in Jamshedpur FC’s emergence as one of the title contenders this season.
Much like his head coach, Khalid Jamil, Gomes’ journey has been defined by persistence, hard work, and a relentless drive to be better, setting him apart from others. Whether in the Indian Super League (ISL) or the Kalinga Super Cup, Gomes consistently displayed his goalkeeping brilliance and leadership under pressure.
From the Indian Super League (ISL) to the Kalinga Super Cup, Gomes continued to showcase his goal-saving prowess and leadership attributes time and again.
This season was somewhat of a redemption for the Jamshedpur FC goalkeeper, who battled through an injury and didn’t feature in the ISL last year. Gomes rose to the occasion, living up to Jamil’s trust as he registered 102 saves, becoming the first goalkeeper to notch 100+ saves in an ISL season.
The Men of Steel’s guardian continued his stellar form in the Kalinga Super Cup, where he registered two consecutive clean sheets, powering Jamshedpur FC to yet another semi-final.
Gomes, confident in his abilities and calm under pressure, reflected:
“I was confident before the shootout, but I think my team helped me more.”
“They missed quite a few of their penalties, so I did not have to save much, but I’m very happy that we were able to win the quarter-final and are now just two matches away from winning the trophy,” Gomes said to aiff.com.
Gomes’ football journey began in his home state, Goa. Since then, he has overcome numerous challenges to establish himself as one of the finest in his position. The Jamshedpur FC custodian attributes his success to a strong work ethic and an unwavering fighting spirit that have defined his career.
“It’s similar. You need to be patient and keep working on the things you can,” he shared.
“I was the fourth-choice goalkeeper when I had just made it through the Salgaocar youth setup to the senior team. But I had to remain patient and bide my time. By the grace of God, that time did come,” he continued.
With a resounding victory in the shootouts, Jamshedpur FC advanced to the semi-finals, where they will take on Mumbai City FC on Wednesday. Gomes wants to focus on one game at a time and set their sights on the Kalinga Super Cup title, aiming to seize the opportunity to play in the AFC Champions League Qualifying Round 2.
“We are taking it one match at a time right now. The semi-final is the most important thing for us at this moment,” he said.
“But our ultimate goal is, of course, to win the Kalinga Super Cup and qualify for the AFC Champions League Two next season,” he signed off.
