Alberto Noguera: Joining FC Goa is like adding a new string to my bow

Hero Indian Super League’s (Hero ISL) Shield Winners from last season FC Goa recently bolstered their midfield with the addition of Alberto Noguera. The 30-year-old Spaniard will bring a wealth of experience to the center of the park for the Gaurs and is looking forward to getting on the pitch in FC Goa colours.

“Coming to Goa to play would be like adding a new string to my bow. I am sure it will be a great experience. I have always been attracted to the possibility of coming to Asia and I didn’t have to think too much when this opportunity presented itself. It is an honour for me,” Noguera said in an interview with fcgoa.in.

The latest recruit in the Goa family isn’t feeling much pressure after signing for the club and is confident about him and the team having a ‘great year’. “I don’t feel there is any pressure on me because I know the player I am and what I am capable of. We will have to put in a lot of work and effort, that is for sure. However, I am certain with the quality of players we have and more importantly with the mentality of the players, it will be a great year for the team and me,” he said.

With the likes of Igor Angulo, Jorge Ortiz and Ivan Gonzalez roped in by FC Goa for the upcoming edition of the Hero ISL, the Gaurs now have many Spaniards in the team who Noguera is familiar with. “I already know and have played with a few players already in the team and I don’t think it will take me much time to acclimate to the team and the conditions,” Noguera said about his new teammates.

While discussing the various factors that encouraged him to join the club, Noguera shared, “The people of the club, their vision, their professional approach and their interest in me was what made me take it up. I spoke to (former FC Goa defender) Carlos Peña, with whom I have played with and he said magnificent things about the club and the country and that was enough for me. He had nothing but wonderful things to say about the club, the country and the fans.”

“I know that people will expect big things because this is what FC Goa is all about. We were winners of the league (winners shield) last year and this year, the target remains the same. I would even say, we would like to go one better and win it all. I wouldn’t be here if the challenge wasn’t so great,” he added.
