Abhishek Bachchan and Marco Materazzi hug each other after the win.Chennaiyin FC co-owner Abhishek Bachchan was obviously over the moon after his side got the better of FC Goa in a 1-2 thriller at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao tonight. Bachchan Jr admitted that the match was a bit rocky at the start but his team managed to keep it together despite the fatigue in the second half.“You have to understand that this is a team that hasn't been playing together for long -- I mean, some of the team members have come in just a few days ago, they’re still getting used to each other. But still, they are gelling brilliantly. I am very, very proud of them,” he told Indiansuperleague.com.The Bollywood star said that today’s encounter compared favourably with the NorthEast United FC vs Kerala Blasters FC encounter a few days ago. “This ranks up there with it. Very competitive, up-and-down, fast paced football! That's what Indian football needs. We need to keep it pacy, competitive, a bit of aggression is always good for the spirit of football,” he explained.Bachchan emphasised that his team is strong in defence, something he and manager Marco Materazzi were very conscious about while selecting the players. “We wanted a very strong defence so we could let the midfielders and forwards run up. Jeje Lalpekhlua came on and made a huge difference. Stiven Mendoza is just a bullet! That boy is fantastic. At this young age, he is a future superstar,” he predicted about the young Colombian recruit.Bachchan also praised the role of charismatic French defender Bernard Mendy in the win today. “Mendy! He's a leader, right? The minute Bojan (Djordjic) went off, he took over. I thought Mikaël (Silvestre) had a great game. And Gouramangi had a sensational game, Dhanachandra too!” he added. The diehard Chelsea FC fan said he and his squad are coping well with the heat and humidity. “I'm coping just fine. Marco is enjoying it and Mikaël, as you can see, has adjusted to it. They are top guys! Thorough professionals! Not one of them has complained about the heat. They just go out there and do their jobs,” Bachchan concluded.Team co-owner Vita Dani added that she was “on top of the world” after the win. “It feels great. We really try hard to put things together and eventually, the onus is on the team to perform,” she said. Dani said following her acquisition of the team, they all have to make sure that football becomes the biggest sport in India now!
