FC Pune City’s diminutive midfielder-winger Israil Gurung worked his socks off along the right flank to initiate several attacks for his team which downed NorthEast United FC by a solitary goal in Pune today. It was Pune City’s second win in five matches in the Hero Indian Super League.Gurung, who learnt the ropes in the hills of Kalimpong, was obviously delighted with the result and felt it was a “wonderful day” and “a wonderful feeling to come up from the bottom of the table” (to fourth spot). He agreed that the introduction of Dudu Omagbemi and John Goossens, who scored an 88th minute matchwinner, changed the game for the hosts. “We couldn’t say anything about the game till the 90th minute because we were attacking and we needed a victory; a draw would have been unsatisfactory, so I think they really played well,” he told www.indiansuperleague.com. Asked what the road ahead for Pune City looks like now that their campaign is back on track, Gurung replied, “I really can’t say anything right now, it’s still early in the tournament. We’ve got nine matches to go so I just want to focus on those nine matches."Gurung, who has won major domestic trophies including the I-League with Churchill Brothers, expressed happiness with his performance today. “I'm happy, but I think I can improve my game,” he quipped.
