ATK Mohun Bagan had a fabulous Hero ISL 2020-21 season. The Mariners finished joint top with Mumbai City FC in the league and ended runners-up in the knockout stage. The club garnered 40 points in 20 matches, losing only 4 times.

Antonio Habas and his men narrowly lost out on last season’s AFC Champions League spot and ISL trophy. So the club is leaving no stone unturned for the upcoming Hero ISL 2021-22.

The Spaniard stated, "We didn't win the title but the team was tied on the same points as Mumbai during the regular season. In the knock-outs, anything can happen. We had the possibility to win the title but we couldn't. But now we have to increase our level and the target this season is to win the ISL."

Tournament History

The club played its first Hero ISL season in 2020 when the club undertook a successful campaign and finished runners-up.

Players To Watch Out

Roy Krishna:

The 34-year-old has been the top scorer of the league for two consecutive seasons. In the previous season, the Fijian scored 14 goals and made 8 assists. Krishna is a game changer who more often than not pulls his team out of tricky situations. In the two seasons that he spent in the Hero ISL, the striker has 29 goals and 14 assists to his name. He is a player that can create something out of nothing.

Hugo Boumous:

The Frenchman has been the main architect for Sergio Lobera’s sides in the past. The attacking midfielder has 19 goals and 24 assists in 58 matches. He was awarded the Golden Ball in the 2019-20 season. From sublime through balls to pin-point overhead balls, the 26-year-old is an ideal player for the no.10 position.

Liston Colaco:

The winger had a breakthrough last season. The trend was such that he would come off the bench and take the game on his head. With the sizzling runs and the lovely finishes in his stock, the Goan seems to be a good match for ATK Mohun Bagan’s style of play.

The 23-year-old scored 2 goals and 3 assists in under 950 minutes on the field last season.

Battle To Watch:

East Bengal has been Mohun Bagan’s arch-rivals for more than a century now. The two clubs share a rich history and that’s what makes this clash one of the best derbies in Asia. The two clubs have had ferocious battles in the past. Last minute winners, frustrated players, angry fans, the Kolkata Derby has seen it all.

The emergence of East Bengal in Hero ISL has got football fans across the country excited for the battle. ATK Mohun Bagan will lock horns with East Bengal on Saturday, 27th November 2021 at Tilak Maidan Stadium.
