Mohun Bagan Super Giant will begin their Asian adventure in the AFC Cup 2023-24 as they aim to qualify for the group stages of the competition via the qualifying rounds. 

The Mariners secured the continental spot with a win over Hyderabad FC on penalties in the Club Playoffs that featured two previous ISL Cup Winners. 

Mohun Bagan Super Giant who won the playoffs last season have further strengthened their team this season with additions like Anirudh Thapa, Anwar Ali, Jason Cummings, Armando Sadiku and Sahal Abdul Samad and will hope to meet fellow Indian Super League side Odisha FC in the group stage draw. 

The Kolkata giants will enter the qualification rounds in preliminary round 2 where they will face the winners of Nepal’s Machchindra and Bhutan’s Paro FC. The clash is scheduled for August 16 at the Vivekanand Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. 

If MBSG get past that hurdle they will advance to the Playoff round where they will face the winners of the other South Zone Preliminary Round 2 clash between Bangladesh’s Abahani Dhaka and Maldives’ Club Eagles. That clash is scheduled for August 22 and will be held in Kolkata if Juan Ferrando’s team advance from the Preliminary Round 2 clash. 

The winner of the Playoff Round clash will qualify for the group stages of the competition, the draw for which will be held on August 24. Odisha FC who have already booked their place in the competition having beaten Gokulam Kerala in the Club Playoffs will have their eyes set on the draw as they make their debut in Asian competitions.
