Kerala Blasters FC secured a 1-0 win over Mumbai City FC in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday. It was their second away win in a row thanks to Iain Hume’s winner in the 23rd minute of the game. The victory also ensured that Kerala maintained their unbeaten record intact ever since David James took over as head coach of the Blasters. Wes Brown spoke to indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive interview after the match and offered an insight from the Kerala camp. Here are the excerpts.

What are your thoughts on the match?

We knew it was going to be a tough game, second game on our travels now. I thought we did really well. We got stuck in and worked as a team. (Iain) Hume got us a great goal. They (Mumbai) put a lot of pressure on us, especially in the last 10 minutes. But we managed to stick together and get the three points and that’s what we need to do. We’re building points now and we can look forward to the next game.

What was it like keeping the Mumbai attack at bay?

We changed tactics a bit. We went five at back even though it was going to give them a lot more control in midfield. We accepted that and were just planning on dealing with everything they gave us and we managed to do that. We had a couple of close shaves near the end but I thought we could have nicked it as well. We are away from home, great win against a good side and another three points. Six points in the last two games (now). We are starting to move up.

What sort of an influence has David James had on the squad?

He’s been good. He’s played and managed before so he knows what it is about. As you can see, the team is playing well and getting the points. We are doing what he is asking us to do. So, we can just keep doing that now, the confidence level has gone higher and we can move on to the next games.
