Krisztian Vadocz will have to be on top of his game when Mumbai City FC host Atlético de Kolkata in the second leg of the first semi-final in Hero Indian Super League 2016 at the Mumbai Football Arena on Tuesday. The Hungarian midfield general needs to put in a dominating display at the centre of the park for Mumbai if Alexandre Guimaraes’ men are to overturn a goal deficit in the second leg having lost 3-2 to ATK in the opening leg of the encounter. Vadocz has been impressive in midfield for Mumbai in Hero ISL 2016, boasting a passing accuracy of 75% as well as three goals and 10 key passes. The 31-year-old spoke to indiansuperleague.com ahead of the clash and shared his thoughts. Here are the excerpts from the interview.
What are the key takeaways from the Kolkata clash?
We are one goal down and that is not what we expected, and at the end of the day it is only one goal, and here as the home side we can beat the opponent over two legs.
ATK worked the wings well in the first leg, so will that be something Mumbai will be focussing on in the second leg?
We have not yet had the tactics meeting with the coach and we conceded three goals and we are not used to that, but we can come back and change the result. What has happened has happened but I think with our quality we can manage this situation and we are confident that we can make it.
With captain Diego Forlan out of the match, how are you planning to handle the responsibility of getting further up the pitch?
It is a big loss for us but I think we have enough players in our team to take the responsibility and we have a lot of attacking players to fill the hole created by the red card which Diego got. We have got enough depth in our squad to show our attacking skills, which we have shown in the league stage.
Mumbai have been unbeaten at home in the last three games, so how important will the fans be in turning things around for Mumbai City FC?
I think from our starting home game, it was clear that the whole city of Mumbai was behind us and three unbeaten matches is good but we know this is history and we need the crowd to make the Andheri Arena hell for ATK.
Lastly, the first leg saw a goal-fest, so will we see the same or a more disciplined approach from Mumbai City FC?
I think the most important thing for us is to go to the final, doesn’t matter if it is 4-2 or 2-0, and we are going with the intention to win the match.
