Chennaiyin FC have suffered a stuttering start to the 2018-19 season of Hero Indian Super League (ISL), losing all three of their opening matches so far. The Marina Machans will need to step up to the plate soon if they hope to replicate their form from their title-winning 2017-18 campaign when they face Delhi Dynamos FC on Tuesday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
Ahead of the crucial encounter, indiansuperleague.com caught up with Chennaiyin’s midfielder Thoi Singh, who bagged a brace in their last match against NorthEast United FC, which they, unfortunately, lost 3-4. Here are the excerpts from the exclusive interview:
On his time with Chennaiyin.
I have been with Chennaiyin FC for four years now. Chennaiyin FC is like a family to me.
How does it feel to be a Hero ISL champion?
Yeah, last year we were champions because all the players and the staff did a lot of hard work and produced a good performance.
On Chennaiyin’s tough start to the season.
In football it happens, you win or lose. We have been putting in a lot of hard work in practice and every player is working hard. The first three matches are over, now we will give 100% to get the win in the next match.
How happy are you with your performance in the last match?
I’m happy. It’s for the team. I scored, it’s good, but whoever scores, it’s for the team. We just need to get the result.
On scoring his first ever goal for Chennaiyin.
It’s good. I have contributed something for the team and it’s my first goal for Chennaiyin FC. I will try to score more.
What’s the plan for the upcoming matches?
We have prepared well and we will play to win the next match.
On the match against Delhi Dynamos.
Every player has prepared well and we will give 100% to win the match.
