Sushil Kumar Singh has the uncanny habit of knocking in goals that matter, something that he has been doing on the domestic circuit in the past for the likes of Mahindra United, East Bengal, United Sikkim, Shillong Lajong etc. The former India frontman has scored several vital goals for the national team too, once helping India beat formidable Qatar away 1-2 in a famous victory. On Wednesday night, the 27-year-old Manipuri striker turned saviour for Mumbai City FC, nodding in the equaliser to help his franchise hold NorthEast United FC 1-1 in the last Hero Indian Super League (ISL) league match in Guwahati. Mumbai finished a dismal seventh in the league standings with 16 points but Sushil told indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive conversation post the match that his team should have at least qualified for the semifinals. Did you think the draw was a fair result today? No, I’m not satisfied, because we had many chances to win the game but we couldn’t convert them. How has the ISL experience been for you?I did not expect such a response for the ISL but I’m really lucky to have played in it. I hope that next year we receive the same response. "I did not expect such a response for the ISL but I’m really lucky to have played in it."Sushil Kumar SinghWhat were your minimal expectations of your team?I think our team should have at least qualified for the semis. How has your experience been with the team?We have a lot of foreigners in our team and it takes a lot of time, at least three to four months, to gel and combine with them. But we had a really good time in training and it was nice to learn from them. Any special moment that you remember about the ISL?I was really excited when the ISL was going to start last year, but it didn’t; so that hurt a little, but playing here now has been wonderful!
