Mumbai City FC goalkeeper Subrata Paul in action.Mumbai City FC were held to their third successive goalless draw, this time by FC Goa, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The Peter Reid coached outfit are still outside the top four, trailing FC Pune City on inferior goal difference. But the story could have been different had FC Goa taken their chances and managed to win the game.Mumbai City custodian Subrata Paul played a key role in keeping Goa at bay today. This was his and his team’s fifth clean sheet in a row, and the sixth in the competition, further cementing Paul’s reputation as one of the competition’s leading goalkeepers. In an exclusive interview with indiansuperleague.com, the India No 1 goalkeeper shared his thoughts on the game:Today was an important game for you to win, do you see this draw as two points dropped? We didn’t lose three points, we gained one point, and that’s very important. But we should have won the match. Our players played very well today, we created so many chances, and we hit the post. The rival team played very well and we defended well, and so one point is not bad for us.At this stage of the competition, points are important as all teams are fighting for points. So do you think it is crucial that home games must be won?Yes, three points are very important for us, but if we don’t get those three points then a point is good enough. If we had managed to get all three points it would have been excellent, but I hope that our team continues to play like this and win the future matches. What do you have to say about your counterpart, Jan Šeda? I watch all the matches and Šeda has been playing very well. He is a very good goalkeeper and I like him, because of him we managed to get just one point today. After your defeat in Chennai, your defence has improved tremendously. What has contributed to this defensive solidness? Our defence has been playing really well, Deepak (Mandal), Manuel (Friedrich), Pavel (Čmovš) and Peter (Costa), all defenders have been playing really well along with midfielders Johan (Letzelter) and Jan (Štohanzl). Football is definitely a team game and we defend as a team. We defend as 11 and we attack as 11, that’s why we’re doing so well, we just try to follow the coach’s instructions. How important is it for the team to start getting the goals?Getting three points is very important for us. For us to win is not in my hands, it’s in the hands of God. Our team is performing really well, we created at least 10 chances but we couldn’t convert. The positive thing is that we created so many chances even if we didn’t score.
