Mumbai City FC’s assistant coach Steve Darby has considerable coaching experience in Asia, including a short spell in India with Mohun Bagan. Darby has also worked under Mumbai City manager Peter Reid when the latter was in charge of the Thailand national side. After his side’s rampant win over FC Pune City in a second round match of the Hero Indian Super League, Darby caught up with Indiansuperleague.com for a short conversation. Here are some excerpts:What did you think of the team’s overall performance, and André Moritz's in particular?Yeah, obviously you’re delighted with the whole result, but it’s pleasing for the player. He came on last week after about 60 minutes and did well, and this week he really showed his worth. The team also showed their potential and quality tonight. Great team effort, all in all. What according to you was the difference? The big difference is the quality of the pitch, we played on a real pitch tonight in superb conditions and we were able to show how we play football."It felt like England, the way they were cheering us."Steve DarbyWhat did you think of the quality of the goals? It’s nice to score good goals. I thought the fifth one was especially pleasing, because Nadong (Bhutia) had worked so hard throughout the match. Then you had Johan (Letzelter), who never scores, but he did and he worked so hard for it.Subhash getting on the score sheet must have been fabulous! It was great that our Indian boy Subhash (Singh) scored because we ended up with seven Indians on the pitch. So it’s great to know that they have taken the chances we have given them, because we’ve still got Nicolas (Anelka) and (Syed Rahim) Nabi to come. That thought is a bit scary (smiles). What did you think of the crowd? It was fantastic today. It felt like England, the way they were cheering us, and it really does make a difference when the people are cheering you. People don’t believe it, but when they are on your back, abusing you, it’s horrible; but when they’re supporting you it’s fantastic.
